Meet Our Doctors
"It's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years". - Abraham Lincoln.
Dr. Brad Gage, DC
Education: The University of Victoria (B.A., 1992), Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto (Doctor of Chiropractic, 2002).
Practice: Dr. Gage’s practice is really two separate but overlapping practices – he maintains a Family Wellness/Rehabilitative practice several days per week in addition to separate days reserved for the treatment of complex spinal issues such as SCOLIOSIS and HYPERKYPHOSIS (increased curvature or excessive rounding of the mid-back) using "The SpineCor Dynamic Bracing System". Dr. Gage is the only Doctor in B.C. Accredited to use the SpineCor System, which is the world's first and only Dynamic Corrective Brace.
In his chiropractic practice, he utilizes Spinal Decompression Therapy, many components of "The Pettibon System" (a rehabilitation program for both the hard (boney) and soft (muscles, ligaments, discs) tissues of the spine) together with elements of the "Chiropractic Bio Physics" (CBP) technique. His patients are given the opportunity to learn home-care exercises that help people "Get Better, Faster"!
Dr. Gage utilizes various adjusting techniques to match the patient's needs, but focuses on a neurologically based technique called "Torque Release Technique", or "TRT" for short. This technique utilizes an adjusting instrument called an "Integrator" which is designed to stimulate specific spinal reflexes. Dr. Gage also has a clinical interest in THE SKULL, assessing and treating problems with the head using the Cranial Adjusting Turner Style (CATS) technique.
Other: Dr. Gage’s interests include hockey, mountain biking, sport shooting and wood-working, as well as a variety of outdoor activities with his family. He has been married to his lovely wife Debbie for nearly 20 years and is the proud father of three active healthy boys.
Dr. James McCowan, DC
Education: The University of Manitoba (Adv, B.A. Psychology, 1998), Northwestern College of Chiropractic in Minneapolis, Minnesota (Doctor of Chiropractic, 2002).
Practice: Dr. McCowan has practiced in Victoria now for 9 years focusing on family wellness, athletics and spinal rehabilitation. Dr. McCowan uses a variety of Spinal Adjusting techniques as not all spines are created equal, as well as incorporating Spinal Decompression Therapy as part of his practice. Also, by utilizing and combining the fundamentals of conditioning, strength training and skill development, Dr. McCowan's practice goal is to help people influence positive change in their spine's function and performance to meet, and even exceed the demands of their daily lives. As an individual would train for a sport in order to be successful and injury free, we must also do the same in facing the demands of daily life.
Clinic Hours
Other: Dr. McCowan is both an avid hockey and volleyball player who has competed on a national level in both Canada and the USA, and now just for fun. Besides chiropractic and athletics, James really enjoys spending time with his partner Marlene. His other interests include music, reading, hiking, and spending time outdoors.
Dr. Dawn McElgunn, DC
